J.K. Rowling had it right. And it sounds so cliche. When you are at rock bottom, you learn a lot. You learn who you can trust, who loves you, and who you are. Everyone has an opinion. When you see someone’s life in snapshot of a moment. On the front page of the paper or on the news, and everyone becomes an expert. I’ve never met someone in love who made a decision in one day that affected their whole life. Until, I woke up and realized it was me.
I wanted to protect the person that I thought I loved, and I did. I made decisions in a moment that people make every day. Everyone has skeletons in their closets, everyone makes decisions that they hope won’t be exposed, and mine were. I was at the top of the world, I joined every board I was invited to, on track to become the Regional Vice President of my division, and I made decisions in a split second that ended it all. And, it was splashed all over the news. I was quickly asked to resign from boards, work, and blogging for the State that I am so proud to be a part of.
Forget the entire innocent until proven guilty mentality that is in our Constitution, I was judged by everyone that doesn’t know me and those who do were forced to defend me. I never had a chance. One reporter picked up the story and made sure that everyone thought the absolute worst of me. Thanks, Constitution, for that one.
