NYE. At the Top of the World.

If you're looking for something unconventional and adventurous to do this New Year's Eve, get in line. There is actually the option and opportunity to spend a night on top of the highest mountain East of the Mississippi. And, you don't have to sleep in a tent. Next year, that is. Last night, as we were discussing NYE plans it dawned on me that we are a day late and a dollar short to this party. Already sold out, spending the night at the top of Mount Wash isn't an option, but save your pennies because there is always December 31, 2016, and it sounds amazing.

I say this all the time. She looks good from every angle.
If this doesn't sound like one of the most terrific experiences of the year, I don't know what does. A snowcat ride to the top, gourmet food prepared by a professional chef (you had me at food), a champagne toast, and snacks upon arrival sound splendid. A sneak peak of the weather station, finally meeting the famous feline, Marty Kitty, who calls it home, and a sunset and a sunrise to die for make bringing in the New Year a check off the ol' bucket list. You don't have to hike, you don't have to get cold, you don't even have to lift a finger to enjoy this view. And, who knows what kind of weather you'll have, so pack your patience because it could be awhile on either end; departure and arrival.

Old Man Winter hasn't been trying as hard as usual to make his appearance; apparently, fashionably late is in this season. So, you'll have to take these tips with a grain of salt. I follow Ryan Knapp on Instagram (and you should too if you like sweet pictures). He is a Weather Observer and Meteorologist at the Observatory and has an eye for capturing Nature's best angle. All day long you can browse through his great pictures: sunrises, sunsets, and other things that come with spending A LOT of time at the top of the highest mountain in New England. It's like God's country up there. Isolated, quiet, and calming.

As you think of all the reasons to be thankful this year and prepare to bring in the New Year, remember that it's the simple things. If you're reading this, be grateful. If you have a home to go home to, be thankful. A New Year's resolution is only as strong as the person who makes it, so enjoy 2016 and be grateful for everyone who loves you and everything you have. New Hampshire wouldn't be the same without you.
