A shout out to my Mommy friends.

A shout out to my Mommy friends.

At my age, you can’t exactly accidentally get pregnant and call your girlfriends to figure out what to do.

These days, I’m lucky enough to watch babies grow up and hear the hilarious stories of zero sleep (and not because their parents were out all night partaking in shenanigans), giggling, crying, or playing. One of my girlfriends has two babies under the age of two and a half and every time I talk to her there is a new hilarious anecdote.

Blowouts, poopy diapers, Thomas the Train, and lots and lots of energy go along with little people growing up. We call my niece ‘the short one’ and she is one of the coolest little girls I’ve ever met. With no sense of boundaries when it comes to personal space she’ll walk right into you.

The best part of being an aunt is hanging out but getting to sleep through the night. Her parents wake up with her at 5am when she’s ready to start playing and I get to sleep for 3 more hours on a Saturday morning. That sounds like heaven to me.

Babies have a certain innocence that make you remember when just waking up was an exciting moment. The whole world was new and every day you could explore something else. With the attention span of about a minute and a half, the babies in my life are very busy.

With the patience of Job the mom’s in my life make the whole parenting thing look easy. They take their babies hiking, biking, to the park, and everywhere that they would go.  The baby has just become an extension of a very strong and healthy relationship between two people who love each other.

My sister asked the whole family to read Bringing up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman; it’s the story of an American mom who is raising her child in France and has a witty way of explaining why French children don’t have ADHD or other issues that American children have. I can’t say I actually finished it, she lost me at play dates in the Third Chapter, but, you get the idea.

So, this is a shout out to all of my mommy friends.

Who are raising happy little children or reading books on dealing with The Strong Willed Child, and reaching out to get advice. They all call each other to ask questions to figure out what this or that means; and I get to hear about the funny things that happen throughout the day.

Because, you know it takes a village.
